Ardbeg

Ardbeg Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery on the south coast of the Isle of Islay. The distillery is owned by Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy, and produces a heavily peated Islay whisky using malted barley sourced from the maltings in Port Ellen.

Ardbeg whisky is considered to be among the peatiest in the world, with most expressions using malt with a phenol content of 55ppm.

There are also Committee bottlings that are available to members of the Ardbeg Committee that precede official bottlings.

ardbeg-uigeadail-whisky-buys.jpg
A fine drop of Ardbeg bottled at cask strength. A marriage of Ardbeg from bourbon barrels and sherry butts which gives a sweet and smoky finish to this malt. Uigeadail is the loch from which all Ardbeg water flows. An absolutely stunning whisky, and following the demise of Airigh nam Beist, this probably represents the best value in the core range.

Ardbeg 17 Year Old Litre.jpg

A litre bottle of Ardbeg 17 Year Old. A tad less peaty than early bottlings, this is still a great whisky, but is sadly becoming very thin on the ground as demand increases and supply runs low - it's now a good few years since owners Glenmorangie discontinued it. The first bottling of this sparked the revival of Ardbeg's fortunes after the takeover by Glenmorangie.
