Auchentoshan Distillery

The Brand

Established in 1823, Auchentoshan (pronounced Ock-un-tosh-un) Distillery is situated between Glasgow and Loch Lomond.

What is triple distillation, and what does it mean to be the only distillery in Scotland that insists on it for every drop?

The short version

  • Auchentoshan new make spirit is the highest distillate of any single malt distillery in Scotland.
  • Because we distil away all the impurities in the liquid, strong notes of fruit and citrus come through.
  • It also makes the spirit more prone to the epic woodiness that comes from the casks in maturation.
  • This makes Auchentoshan the smoothest, most delicate tasting single malt scotch whisky.

The shorter version

  • It’s more time consuming.
  • It’s more expensive.
  • It’s absolutely unique.

History

The subtle aroma and flavour of its spirit is achieved by the unique triple distillation process, whereby the spirit is not distilled twice, as elsewhere in Scotland, but instead, distilled three times producing even greater refinement to its character.

Auchentoshan American Oak

American Oak is triple distilled and matured solely in American bourbon casks resulting in a Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky with the sweet aromas of vanilla and coconut - along with the signature smooth, delicate Auchentoshan taste.

Auchentoshan Three Wood

David talks through the unique Auchentoshan Three Wood, and makes up a Kilted Cockerel (created by the Fat Radish Restaurant, NYC). Auchentoshan Three Wood has been matured in three different cask types. Moving from American Bourbon to Spanish Oloroso Sherry - and finally Pedro Ximenez Sherry casks. Three Wood is a rich, complex whisky with incredible toffee and sherry oak flavours.

Auchentoshan Valinch

For years, evangelists asked us to create a non chill-filtered, cask strength edition of our acclaimed Auchentoshan Classic.

Auchentoshan Valinch was born. The Valinch being the name of the pipette used to draw whisky straight from the cask. An appropriate name for a whisky with all the depth of taste, flavour and texture associated with sampling whisky at source. An unadulterated small batch release.

Auchentoshan 12 Year Old

David Clelland talks through our Auchentoshan 12 Years Old Single Malt Whisky and creates a surprisingly dark, rich cocktail; A Figure of Speech. Triple distilled then matured for over twelve years. Our Lowland Single Malt Whisky has the tempting aroma of toasted almonds, caramelised toffee and the signature smooth, delicate, Auchentoshan taste.

Auchentoshan 18 Year Old

Triple distilled and matured in American bourbon oak for over eighteen years. The result: a refreshing Lowland single malt whisky with the added infusion of ripe citrus and green tea, the warmth of toasted almonds and the signature smooth, delicate, Auchentoshan taste.

Auchentoshan 21 Year Old

David Clelland talks through our Auchentoshan 21 Years Old. Triple distilled and aged perfectly for over twenty one years in American bourbon and Spanish sherry casks. This creates a refined Lowland Single Malt Whisky, ripe with gooseberries, sweet creamy vanilla, a hint of oak, warm honey, and the signature smooth, delicate, Auchentoshan taste.
